The design consultancy Dotdash developed a wayfinding system for the area. Dotdash first undertook a wayfinding and placemaking investigation, to understand the character of the city, user needs, and circulation patterns. The resulting wayfinding strategy connects destinations through the area and encourages exploration.
In addition to connectivity, resiliency became a core theme and source of inspiration for the project. Resiliency reflects the people of Rockhampton. Signage materials were selected for their ability to endure damaging weather, relevance to context, and sustainability.
Directional information is displayed on folded metal panels, mounted on stone plinths. Interpretive panels, mounted on balustrades along the river, provide opportunities to learn about the city’s historical ties to the river. Identification totems are illuminated and help encourage the use of spaces during the day and night.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40″][vc_masonry_media_grid element_width=”12″ gap=”25″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1580082133100-b68138e6-9c36-0″ include=”1930,1948,1939″][vc_empty_space height=”20″][vc_media_grid element_width=”6″ gap=”20″ initial_loading_animation=”none” grid_id=”vc_gid:1580082133101-13062311-70b5-6″ include=”1946,1931″][vc_empty_space height=”20″][vc_masonry_media_grid element_width=”12″ gap=”25″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1580082133103-579b47d2-c34b-5″ include=”1933,1935,1934,1938,1932″][vc_empty_space height=”40″][vc_column_text]
